Accuweather says it's 65 degrees (18C) with 63% humidity. Doing anything is difficult. I feel like I'm controlling a simulacrum on another planet. And doing it for the first time. Fortunately, nothing much is required of me today.

Slow progress so far on the lucid dreaming. Actually, I managed to wake myself from a nightmare five times this morning*, so I guess I am accomplishing something. For me, the first step to controlling my dreams is realizing I'm asleep, but my nightmares this week have been so odd, so unlike my usual dreams, I have just sort of sat back and watched.

I repaired the lower front step with little problem. The upper step is too far gone for a patch to work.

*That's five separate nightmares in the course of roughly three hours.

There's only one English version of Herzen's "My Past and Thoughts" and it's by Constance Garnett? This can't be.

Sleevefaces on Flickr.

Some of them are comically bad- it takes more than just holding an album in front of your face.

I need a drink. And a cigarette.

NOTE TO SELF: Never again read the fragmentary chapters of Dead Souls. You can put the book away after finishing Part One without feeling like a quitter.

There is no reason to read those chapters again. This has nothing to do with the question of whether or not they were meant to be read by anyone, and it has nothing to do with deciding if Gogol would want them read. It has everything to do with not wasting time. The incomplete chapters are just not worth reading.

(Let's see if I can stick to this.)

I'm sitting on the grass. First time this year. Whether I can get up again remains to be seen.
